Each year the Hawaii Publishers Association holds the Hawaii High School Journalism Awards (HHSJA) with the event’s sponsors: Honolulu Star-Advertiser and MidWeek. In 2018, we celebrated the 49th annual event honoring Hawaii’s brightest talent in journalism. HPA works with the public, private and Catholic schools throughout the state to provide a competitive way to recognize the accomplishments of our high school editors, writers, designers, videographers and photographers.

HPA also hosts a prominent keynote speaker during the awards luncheon. In 2018, Mileka Lincoln of Hawaii News Now told how she grew up on a homestead in Kamuela to become a broadcast major at the University of Southern California that has led to a 10 year career in television reporting.

This is event and is one of the many ways HPA is helping to make a difference in our community. To learn more, contact the contest director Jaimie Kim at jkim@midweek.com
